Someone has already submitted Ambrose for his Temple work, but put his place of birth as England.
Also, there is an Ambros Mills son of William Mills Christened in Tiverton, Devon, 7 Oct 1719. Could this be our Ambrose?? His burial date does suggest 1723, rather than 1719, but it may be the same person.
!from david stabler:
Dear Brian. I have been researching my family since 1989 and I have many details not only about the Stabler's of Wigginton but those from Sheriff Hutton, close to Wigginton and from Fulford. The Sheriff Hutton families have many lines including some in America whose descendants I am corresponding with. Those from Fulford did well in York some became Lord Mayor or Sheriff in the late 1700' and part of this family, who were Quakers, went to America in the 1750's and established a line in Virginia that exists today.I have visited Sandy Spring in Virginia where a section of the local museum is devoted to the Stabler family. I have also been in touch with descendants still living in the USA. I have logged much of the information on the Sheriff Hutton and Fulford lines but my own lines are a bit behind as I am constantly adding information from my research and have not yet found time to write it all up. It is a task I have put off for too long and I must make the effort to sort thing out in the next month if it to be of value to other researchers.
I am aware of Ambrose Mills whose daughter Sarah married William Stabler at Rothwell near Leeds on 12 November 1793. The first legitimate son of William & Sarah was Ambrose Stabler baptised 20 August 1794, he cut his throat in his lodgings in Stonegate on 22 March 1841. I have a long newspaper description of the event and inquest . As you know there is a reference to William Stabler, an earlier child than the marriage date suggests, born circa 1789 who hung himself at Fulford in 1810 and I have not been able to verify if he was William's & Sarah's son or Sarah's son fathered by another.
William Mills, brother of Sarah, married Margaret, sister of William and daughter of John Stabler and Mary Clark, at Wigginton on 20 December 1785. Ambrose Mills born circa 1733 if his age at death details are correct on 1 March 1789. He was married to Jane Gray born circa 1730 if age at death is correct on 20 March 1792.
!Ambrose father is given as William Mills a weaver of Lynton on Ouse and his mother was Ellen. Jane [Gray] Mills father was Thomas Gray a barber of Leeds and her mother was Elizabeth. I will try to get some order into my researches but I can confirm direct links and many branch lines connected from William Staveley buried 26 September 1742 father of William Staveley baptised 6 May 1697 to the present day. Most of my researches have been cross referenced from original sources as I am all too well aware of the pitfalls in using only one source or unchecked information supplied by others. I will keep in touch but if you have any specific questions please let me know.
