Henry entered the Abbey at Drax 1Oct 1833, the farm having been managed by my Father's executors for 2 years.
William states in his own journal that he went to live at the Abbey at Drax on Lady Day (25 March) 1739. Later in his life he moved to Carltona few miles SSW of Drax on the 1 Jun 1771. He gave up his business (which was?.....) on the 21 Oct 1776, and moved back home to Camblesforth.
He writes: 1 Jun 1771 left son Will at the Abbey and came to Carlton to steward for Mr Thomas Stapleton. 21 Oct 1776, Left Mr Stapleton and came to Camblesforth.
22 April 1785 completed my 70th Year. This world, age, health, estate, money, children does not make me happy. Oh that I had spent this 70 years in the love and service of my good God.
William entered the Abbey at Drax in April 1771.
John became a Dominican Friar.
Joseph became a Dominican Friar.
Edward died within 3 weeks of the small pox outbreak at Camblesforth Grange.
Thomas died within 3 weeks of the small pox outbreak at Camblesforth Grange.
Grace died within 3 weeks of the small pox outbreak at Camblesforth Grange.
