Ancestors & Relations of James Leaf born 1853 Brompton By Sawdon, Yorks, England

Notes

Vine Leaf-565

I have a feeling that Vine was nicknamed Tick. see reference to his brother in law James Herbert WElls' obituary in his notes.

Charlotte Ann Wells-562

From the Yorkshire Evening Press Charlotte Ann Leaf died 1 Nov 1975 in hospital aged 79 years, of 22, Moore Ave, York, wife of the late vine leaf, dear mother and grandmother. Service at St Hilda's, thursday 6 Nov at 10 am. Cremation at Middlethorpe, York.

James Leaf-782

This Couple lived at the following addresses in York:
All In the Parish of St Mary Bishophill Jnr.

In the 1881 Census, there is an Alice Leaf aged 59, unmarried, lodging with James nad his family. She was Annuitant, and born at Thornton, Yorkshire.

In the 1891 Census, they were living at 9, Windsor St, York, they must have moved away to 5, Denton Terrace soon after. Their daughter Rose was not listed in the 1891 Census, but I cannot find her listed in the Cemetery Records, so I do not know if she had died, or just been elsewhere when the Enumerator came around.

In 1877 A Walter Leaf lived at Railway Terrace, Same Parish. There was no James Leaf, so this Walter could be his father. 25 Nov 1995

James bought a family grave at the York Cemetary (Grave No. 2601). His
!reference in the cemetary records is 80504.

Margaret Annie Hicks-783

Margaret was the major influence with the eccentric christian names which
!were given to her children. So much so that a Mr David C Poole decided to
!look up more about the family and discovered all these wonderful names!!
!He very nicely gave me a copy of all the information that he had, which
!was more than I had at the time.
!Margaret was 94 years old when she died!. She was buried in the York !Cemetary in grave No. 2601, (Ref 116290) which is her husbands grave.

Basil Leaf-2746

Basil was buried at the York Cemetary in the grave which his father had
!bought, No. 2601. Reference No. 55414.

Basil Leaf-2908

I am not certain if this second Basil belongs to this family, as in the Cmetery records it states that his father a J Leaf, was a Travellor, which does not fit with James' Occupation of Engine Driver/Wheelwright. A Birth of Death Certificate would solve the query.
