!In the Family Bible, there is an Elizabeth mentioned , but no surname is given,

There is a newspaper cutting which is undated as to its year of publication which says the folowing:

I have yet to find anything concrete about Edney, though I am certain that she is from Cinderford, as no other evidence points to any other conclusion.
I cannot find any William Henry Batlett's born in YOrkshire at all. THere is one in London, and another at Farnham, in Surrey, but none in Yorkshire. It might be that the records for castleford, though they have been microfilmed, may not have been extrcted, so they need to be looked at to make sure. They are available at the Archives in Wakefiled.

Edeney Preece-9611

The birth of Edney Preece appears in the St Catherine House Index (English Civil Registration) in the fourth quarter of 1858, in the district of Westbury, volume 6a, page 191. The death of Edney Bartlett, aged 66, appears in the third quarter of 1925 in the district of Hunslet, volume 9b, page 466. There is no reference to a marriage in the years 1874 to 1879 inclusive. Can explain how to obtain certificates if not familiar with the system.

Kezia Bartlett-9468

there is a Kezia Barltett born in 3rd Quarter 1895 Pontefract Vol 9c Page 156. Is this our Kezia??

John Preece-9600

31 Jan 2004 also from Maxine Zaidman:
I have just been looking at your genealogy Web Site and have found a connection to you through Edney Preece. Her father John Preece is the brother of my ggg father Enos Preece. The family originally came from Upton Bishop near Hereford, but moved to Ruardean Hill (the highest point in the Forest of Dean ). John and his family seemed to have moved to Castleford in the later 1860's, Enos's son (also called Enos) and some other related Preeces also moved to Castleford in the 1890's.
Edney was born in Ruardean Hill, Gloucestershire (about 5 miles from Cinderford). I have 1851, 61, 81 and 1901 census centries for John's extended family and some other info - see attached word document. I think Edneys husband William H Bartlett came from Warwickshire.
I also noticed you think Johns's wife Elizabeth (d in 1901) was nee Nichols. I do think this is quite possible - there is a big family of Nicholls at Ruardean Hill, and Enos jnr married Mary Ann Nichols (they are all interelated in the Forest of Dean!). I also wonder whether Elizabeth Ralph who appears on the 1991 census is actually Edney's elder sister Elizabeth.
I have also previously come across someone else researching this family - a lady called Judith Sheldon - is she connected to you ? (she wouldn't elaborate her interest !)
Please do get in touch, and I can send you some more info about Johns brothers Enos, James and William. I would also love to know more about your branch, if you are willing.
Kind regards,
Maxine

Elizabeth-9599

On a scrap of card is the following:

Elizabeth daughter of John and Mary Nichols of this parish, Labourer.
A date is given, Nov 28 1827. Could this be a christening date??
This is the only person I could think of it belonging to.....

Allen Chivers Or Preece-10387

Did allen maintain the name of Chivers, or switch to Preece for the rest of his life, or was the entry as Preece due to his parents influence or simply the enumerator assuming that he was a Preece??

Elizabeth-9601

From an 'In Memoriam' Card:

Weep not dear Children butbe content,
For unto you I was but lent;
For Jesus thought it best
To dwell with Him above.

Farewell, my weeping friend, farewell,
My dearest friend, adieu;
I hope ere long in heaven to dwell,
Then I will welcome you.
