!In 1920 (15 May 1920) Lewis and Emily his wife lived at 63 Redeness Street, York.
!In 1925, when his son Leonard married, Lewis was a Gas Stoker.
!In 1936, Lewis was listed as a Retired Painter.
!In 1933, Lewis was listed as a Painter. The electoral rolls for 1933-34 state that Lewis, Elsie, Ronald and Emily Newon lived at 9, East Parade, Heworth, York. THis was the case for 1934-35, but in 1935-36, there is also Hilda Newton, wife of Ronald Newton.Lewis died before his wife Emily,
I have a note saying that a James Newton and his wife Margaret had a son christened 1 Jan 1883 at St Cuthbert's, York. James was a Fishmonger, and they lived in Layerthorpe, York.
Charles was a Gardener, like his Father.
Jane was a servant at the time she married her husband.
Andrew was given the Freedom of the City of York on the 27 jul 1840.
!He lived in Petergate and was a Bricklayer.
!In April 1881, he was living with his second wife, Elizabeth and daughter
!Jennie at 10, Layerthorpe.
!His son Thomas was living just a few doors down at 13 Layerthrope, York.
!His occupation is given as Brick and Tile maker.1871 Census:Layerthorpe, York, Probably in the Parish of st Cuthbert's, or St Maurice, as Layerthorpe (Rd) is a long road, and ther borders of the two parishes run close to this road, if not actually have it within thei borders. I cannot remember if it is in only one of their borders or both of them.
Bulmer, Andrew, Head, Married, 58, Brick & Tile Maker, Born York
Bulmer, Elizabeth, Wife, Married, 43, Born Nottinghamshire, GamstonAccording to the 1891 census Jane Swanbeck is listed as a niece to Andrews second wife Elizabeth, but this does not make sense, as both the 1881 census and the will of Andrew Bulmer state that she is his daughter!
Jane who is Andrew's daughter form his Second marriage, was born at Gainsbro, Lincolnshire, in 1870.She is listed as a Teacher of music
I have not found any Jane Swanbeck's on the FamilySearch website. Perhaps this is her married name??
!A possible related family:

Elizabeth, after the death of her husband Andrew, moved the family Brick making business to Haxby, about 3 miles north of York. She was living on York Road in April 1891.
A possible death and burial date...
an Elizabeth Bulmer, Widow of 33 Claremont Terrace died 11 jan 1915 aged 89 (born 1825/6) and was buried at York cemetery 14 Jan 1915 Burial number 79076.
This Andrew did receive the Freedom of the City of York, like his
Grandfather and Great Grandfather, and his Children,
grandchilren etc. He was granted the Freedom of the City of York in 1802, possibly the 10 Aug 1802.From the land deeds of the City of York, Vol E97 folio 163 dated 17 Jun 1823:
Andrew Bulmer is buying property from his brother John Bulmer:

Absolute conveyance Consideration £49 (ie what Andrew paid John)
Joseph applied for his freedom of the City of York on the 3 July 1830. He had served his apprenticeship to his father from 1823. He was granted the Freedom of the City 3 Aug 1830.
!At the time he was trading as a Joiner in Manchester.
Thomas started his Apprenticeship to his father 21 Apr 1848.
!Was given the Freedom of the City of York on the 26 jan 1857, and he lived at 101, Layerthorpe, York.
!He was an apprentice to his Father Andrew and both were in the Brick and
!Tile making trade. Thomas lived in Layerthorpe at the time, and his father !is likely to have lived nearby also.
!His occupation was Rate and Debt Collector.
!At the 1871 Census there was a William Swuires Visiting with this family. He was only 9 years old, so I am wondering if he might be a nephew of Thomas or Sarah Jane...... He was born in Halifax. This family were living on Layerthorpe (A street, though with none of the usual street designations.
Is the following infromation the corrsct information for my Sarah Jane Potter?? Ireally need to get the marriage certificate to prove it one way or the other!
POTTER, Sarah Jane
Sex: Female
Christening: 28 Nov 1833 Saint Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire, England
Baptism: 12 Jun 1980 SGEOR
Endowment: 3 Sep 1980 SGEOR
Sealing to Parents: 5 Sep 1980 SGEOR
He was the 521st person to be baptised in to the Salem Chapel congregation.
!At the time of the 1871 Census he was a Joiner, probably still learning his trade.
There is a discrepancy with the family structure here: The 1871 Census suggests that Sarah Mead, the mother in law of My John Bentall is born 1817/8 in Felsted. The difficulty is that Sarah Perry married William Mead in 1821! Also, it would mean that Sarah was 14 when she gave birth to Mary Ann Mead.
So if the age is wrong, and you go on a more sensible age at the time of ther marriage to William, then you can find a link with a sarah Perry, daughter of William born 1802. That makes more sense, but why then would William name another daughter 16 years later Sarah as well, when this usually only happened if the first child named had died before the next one. So were there two William Mead's who had wives called Sarah, who both had a daughter sarah, albeit 16 years apart.....Sarah is listed as the cousin of William Perry and his sister Abigail Perry French in the 1861 Census. This William and Abigail's Parents were Edward Perry and Elizabeth Lindsell, so Edward Perry must be Sarah's Father's Brother!
From an email from Grant F Edwards - 15 March 2002
Finally I have found Samuel's burial. It states that he was 74 when he died, which puts my previous estimate of his birth (1748) 18 years out! Also, despite his parents marrying in 1735, all the christenings of his children state that Samuel is the son of Andrew Bulmer and Mary Hurst. Either he was illegitimate, or maybe he was left by someone?? I am not sure.
His will was proved May 1804. Volume 148 of the Index of Wills which can be found at the Borthwick Instiute of Historical Research, York, and was entry no 183. (Tues 3 May 1999)
In his will Samuel says that His wife is expecting their 7th Child, whom I did not know about until I looked in the Parish registers of St Margaret and found mention of the birth, Christening, death and Burial of WIlliam. I also noticed the same for an eigth child, James, who also did not live too long, though I have only just come across his information again (16 May 2001).
Samuel was a Brazier / Brass Castor, and his son Andrew also followe in this business.

!This will was proven 12 Jun 1804.
Though I do not have Nancy's death date yet, I know that she died before 1787, as only her brother's Andrew and John were memtioned in her father's will when it was been written out. Hence she must have died young.
